Here are some photos of a trip that Panama’s President Varela took to Puerto Armuelles on September 15, 2018 to see the progress of Del Monte and ride along for the aerial spraying…wait! That doesn’t sound good ~ I’ll do some more research on the topic.
“Se reactiva la producción de banano en Puerto Armuelles; hoy se inició la fumigación aérea por la empresa Del Monte.”

This sounds horrific! Makes one wonder how this affects the air quality we will all be breathing in the entire region!
Del Monte needs to be persuaded to go for organic cultivation – there’s a huge demand for that everywhere that they export. That would be a win-win for us all!
Organic would be great! Panama is a bit behind on that bandwagon, unfortunately. As far as air quality, the prevailing winds would blow over the banana fincas towards Costa Rica, not Puerto Armuelles.
