This photo was taken in 1992, when Chiquita was still operating in Puerto Armuelles. Cargo ships were loaded with bananas on the pier that is now a major landmark in town.
Here is a photo of the pier taken in 2015 ~ it is deteriorated now and one needs to be cautious walking on it. Some tourists and fishermen still make use of the pier for fishing (they get some big fish too!) and photo opportunities. There is talk in town of the pier being rebuilt soon ~ we all hope so.
