Sometimes it can take longer than expected for improvements to happen in Panama. But, when they do, it is usually exciting news. The long awaited road improvement from the road Carretera Frontera-Puerto Armuelles to Coco Beach Gated Community has finally begun!
If you have driven on Avenida de Coco Beach in the past, especially during rainy season, you will have experienced the bumps and holes that has been the slow going dirt road out to the development.
This week, the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has started the transfer of material, base layer type, for the rehabilitation of the road that begins in Manaca Civil to the beach area of Rodolfo Aguilar Delgado in the district of Barú in the province of Chiriquí. This is the road to Coco Beach Community, Forever Oceans, and Happy Green.
Arturo Lopez, divisional officer of the MOP in Chiriquí, said that the rehabilitation works of the road from Manaca Civil to the beach, is 3 kilometers long with a width of 5 meters. The project started this week, by hauling in 800 cubic meters of base coat from the MOP workshops in the city of David to the grounds of the fish farming company, Forever Ocean Panama, S. A. (next door to Coco Beach), because they have the area guarded and this is close where the work will begin.
Engineer Lopez said, “the rehabilitation of this road will be done in 2 stages, the first will begin with the formation of the gutters, formation and compaction of the road, and then the application of 800 meters base layer cubes, printing and placement double stamp in the first 1500 metres. The rest of the 1,500 completing the 3 kilometers will be done in the second leg.”
Engineer Lopez assured, that the rehabilitation of the road from Manaca Civil to the beach will be done in coordination with the municipality of Baru and the company Forever Ocean, Panama, S. A, which will provide 5,500 gallons of liquid asphalt and the MOP the rest of the material, technical personnel and heavy equipment for the placement of the material on the aforementioned track.
This work will benefit more than 16,000 inhabitants of the Rodolfo Aguilar Delgado corregimiento, residents of the Coco Beach community, agricultural producers, and tourist promoters, including the new Aquicola Center of Acopio for fishermen is organized from the Baru area.
The map on the left has the road improvement project highlighted, from the Frontera road to the beach. It will be interesting to see how long this project takes, since we still have not seen the completion of Phase 2 of the road from Limones to Bella Vista…
Can someone please update the status of the road? I heard it still is 50% complete.
The road has been completed. It is asphalt, so not really paved. Much better than it was ~ no potholes anymore!
