Japan’s leading business community is looking toward Panama as a destination for major investment opportunities. More than 1,600 companies—including global names such as Sojitz, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, and MUFG Bank—have expressed interest in collaborating with and financing key strategic projects across the country.
Priority initiatives include the Río Indio multipurpose reservoir, the development of new ports, the extension of Metro Line 3 to Costa Verde, the construction of Metro Line 2A, and the modernization of the Cerro Patacón landfill.
Beyond infrastructure, discussions also highlighted Panama’s growing potential as a regional center for data services and Artificial Intelligence (AI). President José Raúl Mulino welcomed the recent agreement establishing the framework for future direct commercial flights between Panama and Tokyo, a milestone expected to strengthen trade, investment, and connectivity between the two nations.
While these initiatives are national in scope, they reflect the growing international confidence in Panama’s future. For regions like our own Puerto Armuelles—where significant port, logistics, and infrastructure projects are already generating renewed interest—this momentum reinforces the area’s long-term investment potential.
