I spoke with the construction crew yesterday and they say that the new Glorias Deportivas Baruenses stadium in Puerto Armuelle should be open in February. It is an impressive structure, right at the roundabout coming into downtown!
If you have driven in or out of Puerto Armuelles in the past year, you’ve been witness to the construction of the enormous new baseball stadium, just past the roundabout. I’m so excited to be posting all of the improvements and positive forward movement of this beach town we call home. Just about everywhere we look nowadays, something new is happening!
Construction of the stadium is being carried out by Constructora Rigaservices, SA. Demolition of the old stadium and new construction began in August 2018, making it an 18 month long project. Total costs are over $7.5 million and the specifications are following MLB (Major League Baseball) standards.
Seating, with stands made of prefabricated concrete and reinforced steel, will accommodate 4,500 spectators. There are cubicles for the press and VIP Boxes with exclusive express access. The stadium will also have sales kiosks for food and other items, and a bar. Everything at this new stadium is top notch including fire alarm systems and sprinklers, an electronic scoreboard, lighting towers, green areas, and elevators. The parking lot will be asphalt and/or concrete and will be one of the last things to be installed.
Baseball is a popular sport in Panama and is especially important among the youth of Puerto Armuelles. Two professional baseball players have come out of Puerto to date: Omar Moreno was a major league player who played for the Pittsburg Pirates during the World series and Jhonny Santos is currently in the minor league, playing for the Miami Marlins. Maybe the new stadium will help to instill ambitions in Puerto Armuelles and produce even more quality athletes in the future.
Tengo la duda de saber si ¿el estadio esta adaptado para personas discapacitadas??
Dicen que está construido según las especificaciones de MBA, lo que significa que tendría acceso para discapacitados.
