Restaurant Marieth: A Local Favorite

The first time I had lunch at Marieth, I was surprised to find a swirl of spaghetti on my plate along with the typical Panamanian fare. Plates are generous and tasty, which makes this little restaurant a local favorite in Puerto Armuelles.

Marieth’s is in a covered outdoor patio setting, with tables and chairs, and a few stools at the counter. They are open for breakfast ~ traditional Panamanian fare like stir-fried beef or liver with a tostada or hojaldra and coffee. Eles também fazem um legume gostoso e ovo tipo fritada prato.

Lunch is usually a plate, like the one I had in the picture to the left, with a choice of meat or a soup of the day. There is plenty of food to fill hefty appetites. Most meals are about $3.50 each. With a drink it is still under $5.

Someone will come to your table to take your order. When you’re ready to leave, you should go up to the counter and ask for your bill (la cueanta, por favor) and pay there. Standard tips in Panama are 10%.

This is one of my regular places to stop when I eat out. It’s in a convenient location and I have never had a problem finding a place to park. The wait for your meal is usually not long and there is good ‘people watching’ along the street in front of the restaurant!

Restaurante Marieth is open for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week.

To get to the restaurant, go past the Dolphin Monument towards Las Palmas. It is on the right, just past the church.
